Procuro-Me
by. Lenora de Barros
MAM, Museu de Arte Moderna de Sao Paulo
I chose this photo because when thinking about portraits, I thought of trying to view myself in many different ways. In this photo it shows the artists hair in many different ways and it in a way makes it seems like it's all different people.
Taxista en la Puna (1996)
by Marcos Lopez
Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de Buenos Aires
I find this photo to be very inspiring because it kind of looks like a self portrait with the object behind him looking like a big photograph.
Portrait of my Father Wilhelm Kahlo
by. Frida Kahlo
Museo Frida Kahlo
This was very inspiring because it was a portrait of the man's father. Not only was it special to do but it was probably good for the artist to be able to "reconnect" with his past.
I was at work and needed a picture, so I had a coworker take one for me. I figured seeing me in my occupation clothes helps describe who I am.
I looked at my original photo while drawing this, in the background I thought about things that describe me. So I added my favorite number, Yahoo Fantasy Football (my favorite website), the Buffalo Bills, and where I go to school.
1. Why did you select the inspiration pieces?
I looked at those and thought about which pieces have a lot of meaning behind them, and I thought all three shared great visions and truth.
2. Why did you select the media to create your self-portrait?
I like using pencil because I have little artistic talent and knew I would screw up, so erasing was a very good option for me.
3. What challenges did you face in creating your self-portrait and how did you overcome them?
3. What challenges did you face in creating your self-portrait and how did you overcome them?
I thought drawing was very hard my whole life so I took my time and really tried making this as good as I could.
4. How does this piece represent you?
I was able to show myself in my cook clothes, and create a background that describes my likes.
5. What elements and principles of art did you apply in this work?
Color, I used strictly grey and white. As well ad some pattern in the stadium seats.
6. Did you enjoy working on this project?
I did because I have never had to work on something like this.
7. What do you think of your final artwork?
I could have done better but I believe it was done a lot better than what I thought I was going to do.
