A.) Which artworks make an impact or impression on me? Why?
No Title (El Greco Window) 2001
I felt that this artwork made a big impression on me when I saw it. When I looked at it, I thought of a kitchen floor, and when it being blurry it could resemble someone being hurt and starring down at the kitchen floor. I felt sad looking at this so it made a big impression on me.
No Title ( Folding Table and Chairs, beige), 2006
When I saw this it made a great impression on me because I immediately started thinking of how small people are in the world. We are just a small speck on the radar compared to the world as a whole. And looking at the big folding table and chairs, I felt somewhat like an ant I guess you would say.
B.) Which artworks do I feel a connection with? Why?
Francis Celentano - "Gamma", 1970
When I looked at this image I really felt a fun connection, I watched that show "The Big Bang Theory" a lot and when I saw this I thought about it. They are always talking about science, gamma rays, and the Doppler effect and it just really was cool to get the feeling of connection from the image that was presented.
The Recycle Group "Black Friday" 2013
Audrey Blokhin
Georgiy Kuznetsov
I thought this was a really great piece of work, this was something that I had a really good connection with. It was people in a clutter buying things on black Friday. I had a connection because I have been in the situation where I was rushing and trying to buy everything, and everything was just a huge mess.
C.) Which artworks would I like to know more about? Why?
Jackson Pollack - "Convergence" 1952
I feel that I would want to know more about this painting, because I feel that there is a lot of conflict within it. Conflict that cannot be explained unless it was looked up and researched. I feel that there are a lot of ideas within this painting, and would like to know what those ideas are.
Lee Bontecou - "Untitled", 1960
I want to know more about this piece of art because when I looked at it, for some reason I thought of a transformer like piece. Something that was trying to turn into something else or something. Because it didn't really make too much sense to me, I would like to know more about it.
Other Images I Like as I was there
Chaim Soutine
Carcass of Beef, 1925
This I couldn't find what its called or who created it, but it reminded me of the movie Inception with the never ending staircase.
Hi Matt!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed looking at the art pieces you chose. We all seem to have our own taste and what relates to one, has no meaning to another. I especially liked the "Black Friday" piece. Really awesome how it showed people rushing and shopping - the images "popped" right out at you! As we just learned! I also chose "Carcass of Beef" - it intrigued me also, kind of eery and full of wonder. Great job!
At first glance I was very curious behind your picture of the table and chairs, but then I read your explanation behind it and that was very interesting to me and made me think a lot!
ReplyDeleteI can also relate to the Black Friday artwork. Since I work in a clothing store this literally makes me get annoyed just looking at it. People are so pushy and crazy on this day everything is falling on the floor, and people are falling over. To some people this may be funny because they are the ones going crazy for the deals but i dread this day and this reminded me how close it is to being here. I also liked how you related the stairs to the movie Inception, overall it looks like you had a great experience at the Albright Knox!
ReplyDeleteThe staircase is by Rachel Whiteread. She has filled architectural spaces with concrete -- the concrete displaces the space we usually move through. Awesome piece!
