Blog Video Review

1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.
I selected these videos because throughout the readings there were a lot of discussion on the african art within the history, so I chose both videos on African art to learn more about it.

2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
I learned in each video since they both were fairly the same, that African art was very much influenced by the animals of the kingdoms, this turned into a lot of certain animal art creations.

2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
They relate to the readings by going into a very descriptive reasoning behind why certain African art was done in some ways, like the bodies of people would be twisted and turned for example.

3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
I enjoyed the videos because I prefer seeing a visual outlook on topics and with choosing to learn about African art, it definitely helped seeing a better look and view of the art.

Mask

The Mask that was used for the Friday the 13th movies, has become a well known scary mask even though it was just an old hockey mask.

The daunting look and smirk makes this mask very creepy and makes your stomach turn a bit.

Known as the mask worn in Saw, this creepy doll mask was a haunting mask that will forever now scare those who watch the movie.

With the mask that I drew, and since it's Halloween time, I tried creating my own version of a Halloween mask. This has always always been my favorite holiday, and I used some elements and principles such as pattern, and color (pencil).

1. Upload the three (3) inspiration images to your Blog (or link to your Photobucket account). Explain why you selected the inspiration pieces.

I chose these images because I wanted to pick the masks from my favorite horror flicks, these masks are very haunting in their own ways.

2. Include the analysis and description (art criticism steps) of the three (3) inspiration pieces.

Friday the 13th- this mask had a lot of pattern in it, where it was just a hockey mask. I think it was the simpleness that was used that made this mask so scary.
V For Vendetta - This mask really creeps me out because it's smirk is just so haunting that it seems like it could really be anyone behind the mask.
Saw - This was used in the Saw movies, and is now known as a very scary one at that. It haunts many people for it being linked to a voice control thing as well.

3. Upload images of your sketchs and finished piece.

4. Explain how you used the Elements and Principles in your finished mask.
I used a lot of pattern in my mask, trying to add something to every half or corner of the masks. I also used color, where I chose pencil.

5. Share your opinion of your finished mask and what you thought about creating the mask.
I thought my mask could have come out a little bit better but I enjoyed doing this project, specially since it was Halloween time.

Video Blog Reviews Module 9

1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.

I chose bother these videos because I wanted to learn a greater deal about Michelangelo and da Vinci. I learned a lot from the readings and it was really nice to watch visual take on the both of them.

2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.

In the Michelangelo video, I learned that he respected his works so much that he would take it everywhere with him and not want anyone to see. The only way we were able to see his art was from his death, which is ironic because of how great of an artist he was. In the da Vinci video, it was really interesting learning about the emotion that he put into his works. Because with this idea it led to a great change and revolution of paintings.

2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?

This related to the texts because in the text it talked about the feelings that were put into the works and paintings. The feelings and emotions were the key aspect of the change in artistic forum.

3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?

I thought the videos were much more helpful in regards to understanding what kind of person Michelangelo and da Vinci were. The videos gave much more insight on the emotional toll that was used.

Hands Blog

Right and Left hands, done with each opposite hands.  For the record I have always been a very bad drawer so I am sorry if these look bad for this project.

1. What was it like using your hand as subject matter for a drawing?
This was interesting because I never really looked at my hand as a subject, looking to see what lines I have on it and shapes and whatnot.

2. What media did you select - pencil or charcoal? Why?
I chose pencil because I knew It would be easier to draw with and if there was a mess up, it'd be easy to erase.

3. How did it feel to create a drawing with your non-dominant hand?
It was very tough, I felt like my left hand was useless in a way, because it wasn't going in any direction I wanted it to.

4. Compare and contrast your final drawings. Do you think they are successful studies?
I don't feel my drawings would be successful studies, mainly because I lack artistic ability of drawing, which isn't a bad thing its just I would rather so a study on someone who knew how to draw very well to begin with.

5. Would you consider using your non-dominant hand to create artwork in the future?
If I took some more time to learn how to draw with my dominant hand first, then yes I would take some time to see how my less dominant hand would hold up.

Module 8 - Video Reviews

1. Explain why you selected the video you choose from the selection listed above.
 -  -
I chose this video because I began looking through all the videos and this one caught my eye because it was about the development of the reading and writing that monks took, I found that to the very interesting and  I chose to watch this one. (The World Inscribed).

2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.

I found that in the Human video, the study of the seagulls displayed remarkable evidence that brains can be manipulated in a way so it would think of certain things in an exaggerated context.

In the world inscribed video, I thought what was interesting was the part about how when an encryption was wrong even so slightly, the person would then have to go over and re do it so he knows he got it right.

3. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?

In both the book and the videos, they described how over the years the development of such things as art, writing, and the human way of thinking has gone from a exaggerated standpoint to a more creative and exotic view of the world and whats within it.

4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
I thought the film about humans was a very intriguing film, it definitely showed me that things can be defined and figured out even from times that date back to B.C., what I didn't care about the world inscribe video was how they said that someone tried teaching themselves how to read and write but couldn't. I would think that it may be easier to learn when the brain was little bit more developed.

Module 7: Blog Video Review

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.

I like what the video "Praire Style" suggested, that the Frank Lloyd Wright’s Prairie Style didn't want to destroy buildings but to have them blend naturally into their environments. I thought this was a really interesting idea because it led to a landscape foundation for many other building aspects.

The Frank Gehry video was another interesting one to watch, I especially liked how he described that when he would create a building, it was about connecting with the people and the enviroment.

2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?

I thought the videos related to the readings by them both describing that the creation of a building is the most important aspect and it would show how a architect can express themselves in their work.

3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of Architecture?

I thought the films were okay, I believe I preferred reading the text though because I thought the text gave me an easier understanding of the architecture. It explained how important the little things were and the determining of certain aspects of it all.

4. Why did you choose the films that you watched?

I chose those videos because I wanted to learn about a certain pair of individuals and how their ideas changed the landscape and foundation of the architecture world.

Blog Peer Reviews

Comments:

When looking at Project #1: (Elements and Principles), did you agree with the element or principle the artist listed with the images? Did you see other elements and principles in the images?
I did agree with the elements and principles that the artist listed with the images. There was a lot of color put into them and they both ended up using water as a pretty cool element that was added in.

When looking at Project #2: Where there any images in the Peer Blogs the same as your own? If yes, what were they? Where the reasons the image was selected the same or different as your own?
There were 3 each from each peer that I ended up using for my own. So I found it to be very cool and interesting to see that others also thought the images chosen had an effect on other people rather than just me. The image that was the same was Serie 14, which they had a different reaction to it than I did. I had more of an intrigue feeling and they were just attracted to the colors.

Where there any images that your Peers selected that pique your interest now? If yes, what are they and what is your connection with them? What would you want to know about them?
There was an image in the project one from Elizabeth that I really enjoyed. She used a big pool, that had a lot of blue in it for her color images. I thought it was really smart on her part. I thought it showed a lot of brightness and it gave much space image as well.

What do you think about  the process of reading your peers reflection? Do you find this to be a valuable in your learning?
I thought this process was really entertaining because I was able to look at other peoples take on the elements and principles as well as the art gallery. It was cool to see that others also had the same connections with some images as I did. This helped my learning because now it seems as if I was doing something right and I wanna keep going.

Do you find the comments helpful?
I find all comments to be helpful because it showed that I was on the right track with everything and I was doing a good job with my work.

Blog: Video Review

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.

Glass - What I found to be very important in this video was how the person who is creating a colored glass window, would first draw a small version of what they want, then draw out a bigger picture before they actually start the making of the window.

Sculptor - This video was very interesting, a concept I thought to be important was how sculptors would be hired to reassure certain works that needs tuning so to speak.

2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?

Glass - The video relates to the readings by showing that the making of glass is very similar, but  it was a lot easier to see how it was created by watching the guy use the heat.

Sculptor - I thought the video was different from the readings, because it showed how much work gets put into someones crafting and hands on work. While it explained in the readings that "art" needed to be more decorative which I don't find that art needs to be decorative to be great.

3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the topics: Sculpture, Installation, and Craft?

Glass - I liked this video a lot, because it showed how glass was made through the process that it needs to go through.

Sculptor - This video was really interesting because it showed how much time and effort gets put into someones work, and how the guy would work on more then one sculptor at a time to keep his mind creative.
